A Modern Day Love Story

*Thanks to Lindsay and Chip for their inspiration. I wrote this for their engagement.

In the warmth of summer in 1993,
None of us knew what would come to be.
When the paths of two destined to meet,
Crossed at last in that June heat.
And thus began a budding romance,
When those two decided to give it a chance.
And for sometime, life was pure bliss.
With fond memories of that first kiss.
But the tumultuous times of being a teen,
Led to a future uncertain and unseen.
And for a time those two would part.
But time has no grasp on matters of the heart.
Spring turned to summer and summer to fall.
Life went on for both and the boy grew tall.
Fall turned to winter and winter to spring.
Neither of them knowing what the future would bring.
In 1999, they were brought back together.
Older and wiser in the crisp fall weather.
The flame rekindled, starting anew.
Hopeful in what would ensue in part two.
The good times they shared, the memories they made.
Growing them closer, never to fade.
Distance was their challenge, they felt it every day.
But love is strong and patient and always finds a way.
Although it wasn’t easy, they handled it with care.
Traveling the highways, meeting here and there.
When all was calm, there was school to interfere.
And the four brown eyes grew sad and with tears.
He studied law and she, education.
It posed no threat, no intimidation.
And before long the summer was here.
And finally a chance for the two to be near.
They realized it was what their future would be.
One filled with fun, happiness, and harmony.
It all made sense and fell into place.
Never to be severed by time or space.
That summer came, that summer went.
And it was obvious what that meant.
Once again to be separated.
But now with the ring anticipated.
So life was good and life was fun.
And now it was October 2001.
Two years together what a beautiful thing.
Their future cemented when he gave her the ring.
And that brings us to now, planning for the day.
When words of commitment before all they will say.
But that is not where this love story ends.
There still is forever, with its bumps and bends.
Love is strong; it conquers all as we can clearly see.
And through this life they’ll walk as one, together he and she.
