Ready, or Not?

What comes first – a change in circumstance or a change in attitude? Or does neither determine your fate?

Is it that your career, locale, or home ownership status turn you into a “real grown up” and thus alter your mentality (and demeanor)? Does this, in turn, cause you to emit a certain vibe or make you more receptive and open to someone on a similar page? Does it automatically push you down the path to Marriage Town and Child Ville rather than Lover City? Or can you be established in your career, own your own home in a place with backyards, and still want to keep your relationships light and fun? Or can you feel as if you are floating from job to job like you float from hotspot to hotspot or apartment to apartment in the big city and want to trade it all in for settling down?

Is it not circumstantial changes, but attitudinal changes within the individual? Do you just “grow up” after a certain time frame or a certain number of life experiences? Or do you just tire of the scene and the game? Do you decide you want a different lifestyle and pursue it, regardless of how high you have climbed the corporate ladder or where you reside? Is this what causes you to emit a certain vibe or makes you more receptive and open to someone on a similar page?

Or is it as simple as meeting the right person? Is it that nothing about your current lifestyle or attitude can compare to what happens when your path crosses with that individual?

Or is it as complicated as feeling “grown up” in some areas and child-like in others? Or feeling so close to being ready on some days and so far on the rest whether you have met the right person or not?

And at what point do you stop thinking about what makes you ready (or not) and just let life happen?

I don’t claim to know the answers. I, too, walk the line between both worlds and am not sure if it is affected by any of the above. What I do know is that no matter what dictates your fate, what your current circumstances may be, or how you may feel about your future on any given day, loving your life and being comfortable with yourself is essential to living your life to its fullest. And as hard as it may be, sometimes you just need to sit on your hands, embrace the unknown, and trust that it will all work out in the end.
